WINDS OF CHANGE

Sometimes you feel lifted up, sometimes you feel low
First you say you want to stay, then that you must go
Making tough decisions never felt so hard
After years of holding back you know that you’ve been scarred

And if your world is spinning
And everything feels strange
You know you’ve been blown about by the winds of change
By the winds of change

Walking round in circles on the verge of tears
Gave yourself permission after many years
To ask yourself some questions – work out where to go
Time to make some changes – it’s time for you to grow

And if your head is spinning – so much to rearrange
You know you’ve been blown about by the winds of change
By the winds of change

The journey may be painful – the destination far
But you will find the strength somehow to be just who you are
To yourself you must be true and follow all your dreams
Though the path be rocky and crosses many streams

And if your world is spinning
And everything feels strange
You know you’ve been blown about by the winds
And if your head is spinning – so much to rearrange
You know you’ve been blown about by the winds
Some days it’s in the crosshairs
Some days it’s out of range
But you know you’ve been blown about by the winds of change
By the winds of change
By the winds of change

WHERE’S IT ALL GONE WRONG?

One day I got a letter made my blood run cold
From some vampire lawyer just doing what he’s told
You can’t get yourself a new skin without casting off the old
Got my friends to lie for you – paid them off in gold
Where’s it all gone
Where’s it all gone wrong?

Gave you twin daughters just like peas in a pod
Then came their little brother fair-haired like a god
And now from Eden you say I have to go
Cast down out of heaven into the place below
Where’s it all gone
Where’s it all gone wrong?

You took the children; the roof above my bed
At night I lie and listen to your voice in my head saying:
“You’ve done your bit now get out of my life
Call yourself a husband? You don’t deserve a wife
Just send the money – that’s all you’ve got to do
To keep us in the lifestyle that we’re accustomed to!”
And who says it’s easy? Who says it’s fair?
Where is the justice? Does anybody care?
Where’s it all gone
Where’s it all gone wrong?

Tried to keep my distance – not to make things worse
God I miss my children! Yours is a potent curse
Wandered in the wilderness, outcast and alone
Sheltered in a corner of what I once called home
Where’s it all gone
Where’s it all gone wrong?

Some people say you always love the one that’s hurting you
I don’t know what I’m guilty of so what else can I do?
Got to face the future; got to let things go
And walk away from everything – just listen to you crow
Where’s it all gone
Where’s it all gone
Where’s it all gone
Where’s it all gone wrong?

THE LAUGHING BOY

I came here to tell you
The saddest story you’ll ever hear
But you don’t need that
So I’ll tell you the funniest story
You’ve ever heard in years
We need to laugh we need to laugh
A joke is maybe better
Than all the things I’ll never say
Remember I was only there
To drive your cares away

There’s the wind and the waves
The sun and the moon and the laughing boy
There’s pleasure for us all
A bewildered bird in a gilded cage
I’ll sing each time you call
I will give you all I have
If I thought that’s what you need
For certain it’s not the laughing boy

I came here to sing you
The saddest song you’ll ever hear
But you don’t need that
So I’ll play a tune you can dance to
And never mind the words
We need to dance we need to dance
And dancing’s sometimes better
Than all the talking we could do
But it seems like one dance is all I ever had with you
Yes it seems like one dance is all I ever had with you

There’s the wind and the waves…

I’ll sing each time you call
I will give you all I have
If I thought that’s what you need
For certain it’s not the laughing boy

LET IT GO

I see your knuckles turning white
You’re holding on so tight – let it go
And both your eyes are burning red
From all the tears you’ve shed – let it go
I know the future’s looking black
There’ll be no turning back – let it go
And now your world has turned to blue
There’s nothing you can do – let it go
Let it go – it’s time for you to loose your grip
Let it go – to jump out of this sinking ship
Let it go – let it go

Another wrinkle on your face
Is surely no disgrace – let it go
You think the surgeon’s steely knife
Is going to change your life – let it go
We all lose sight of who we are
When reaching for a star – let it go
And life is just a lottery
But what will be will be – let it go
Let it go – be comfortable in your skin
Let it go – embrace the world you’re living in
Let it go – let it go

Don’t turn your back and walk away
And tell us you can cope
‘cos we’re all hanging on this cliff
Connected by this rope – let it go

Like all good things it had to end
In time the heart will mend – let it go
Right now the pain is all you feel
In time the wound will heal – let it go
The sands of time are running out
Of that there is no doubt – let it go
And when it’s time to say goodbye
Don’t be afraid to cry – let it go
Let it go – your suffering will help you grow
Let it go – you’re stronger than you’ll ever know
Let it go – let it go!

NEW CAR

Started out with the intention
Of keeping all those vows you made
But you were craving the attention
Of a man into whose path you strayed
He read the longing in your eye
Found a way into your soul
And when the sparks began to fly
That’s when you simply lost control

This was everything you needed
Guess it’s what he needed too
Thoughts of caution went unheeded
Into each other’s arms you flew
You couldn’t wait to see each other
Couldn’t tear yourselves away
Never dreamed you’d find a lover
Who could make you feel this way

Now you’ve bought a new car
And you’ve made a new start
Steered it away from affairs of the heart
Back on the highway straight and true
Away from the byeways and the love you knew
Away from the byeways and the love you knew

Found yourself in situations
Really made your conscience burn
There were many complications
Many points of no return
You couldn’t handle all the lying
All the stress and the deceit
Spent so many hours crying
In the end you faced defeat

So you bought a new car
And you made a new start…

Then the trees they started turning
Winter winds began to blow
And with winter geese returning
There was nowhere it could go
Not an easy conversation
Not too many words were said
Couldn’t be his consolation
Said for you the thing was dead

So you bought a new car
And you made a new start…

ROLLERCOASTER

I’ll take a trip to the fairground
To see if all in love is fair
Ride a painted pony on the merry-go-round
Be a star at the hoopla
Might even win a teddy bear
Go insane on the ghost train
I can hear the siren sound
But oh (not another) no (not another)
Don’t want another roller coaster
Oh (not another) no (not another)
Don’t want another roller coaster ride

Try my luck at the duck stall
Find out if my aim is true
Please somebody tell me why the coconuts are shy?
Climb on that magic carpet
Take a spin on the helter-skelter
Go see the fortune-teller
Maybe she can tell me why
But oh (not another) no (not another)
Don’t want another roller coaster
Oh (not another) no (not another)
Don’t want another roller coaster ride

And the world looks wonderful
When you reach the top
But it’s such a long way down
Don’t let this big wheel stop

Life can be so exciting
What goes around must come around
Everything so enticing
Intoxicating sight and sound
I hear the siren calling
See the empty bumper car
Before she takes my money
Could this be one ride too far?
But oh (not another) no (not another)
Don’t want another roller coaster
Oh (not another) no (not another)
Don’t want another roller coaster ride

CONNECTED

Suddenly from nowhere after oh so many years
Like a revelation your silent face appears
Bringing back such memories – sweet summer souvenirs
Thoughts of times that I had long neglected
Thoughts of things that make me feel connected

Is it you or just somebody that I need to hold tonight?
Let us melt into this moment – I just need to hold you tight
And does it really matter if it’s wrong or if it’s right?
This is not a situation we selected
But for now I need to feel connected

Am I simply clinging to a fragment of the past?
Clutching at a moment that was never meant to last?
Or reaching out for something that was moving much too fast?
It’s a feeling that was wholly unexpected
But for now I need to feel connected

I will wake up in the morning with this puzzle in my head
Did I ever really know you and how many words were said?
But you have stirred such feelings that I thought so long were dead
For a way of life I long ago rejected
But now I’m here I somehow feel connected
But now I somehow feel connected

THINKING

I’ve been thinking about you
In the morning light
And just before I go to sleep
I think of you at night
Please tell me what it is you do to me
You’re so much better in my arms
Than in my fantasy

I struggle hard to comprehend
The strength of what I feel
I have to pinch myself and tell myself
This love is real
This new sensation’s got me tingling in every nerve
You tell me in this life we only get what we deserve

Oh won’t you tell me this
Can there be so much bliss
In just one little kiss?
Please take me by the hand
Help me to understand
I’m just a stranger in your wonderland

So won’t you tell me this
Can there be so much bliss
In just one little kiss?
Please take me by the hand
Help me to understand
I’m just a stranger in your wonderland

I know that you can see right through me
With those laser eyes
Doesn’t take you very long
To burn through any thin disguise
I seek atonement for my sins – my love I must confess
We deal in total truth and honesty and nothing less

I’ve been thinking about you
I’ve been thinking about you

YOU ARE MY HEARTBEAT

You are my sun and moon
You are my day and night
And in the darkness
You are my guiding light
You are the rainbow
After the storm has passed
You’re the foundation
Of a love that’s built to last

‘Cos you are my heartbeat
You are my everflow
You run much deeper
Than you will ever know
You are my heartbeat
Deep in the heart of me
You make the love flow
Through every part of me

And when the day is done
You drift to a lullaby
Watching you breathe
Breaks my heart and makes me cry
Innocence sleeping
Dreaming until you wake
Won’t last forever
One day the spell will break

And you are my heartbeat…

My love like water
Flows in an endless stream
We stick together
Bound in a threadless seam
And when you’re older
I know you’ll fly away
Wherever you wander
Here in my heart you’ll stay

‘Cos you are my heartbeat…

RISE ABOVE

When you’re feeling like a circus clown
With a smile that’s painted upside down
And the worries that are on your mind
Seem so hard to leave behind

Rise above your darkest day
Not so hard to do
Rise above those clouds of grey to skies of blue
They’re waiting there for you

When you’re feeling like you just don’t care
‘cos your life it isn’t worth a prayer
And the curtain has begun to fall
You’ve read the writing on the wall

Rise above your darkest day
Not so hard to do
Rise above those clouds of grey to skies of blue
They’re waiting there for you

And just remember every cloud
Must have a silver lining
And up above the darkest sky
The sun’s still shining down

When you’re travelling down that lonely road
And you’re carrying such a heavy load
Just remember I’ll be there for you
With a guiding hand to help you through so

Rise above your darkest day
Not so hard to do
Rise above those clouds of grey to skies of blue
They’re waiting there so
Rise above your darkest day
Not so hard to do
Rise above those clouds of grey to skies of blue
They’re waiting there for you

SAM COOKE SAID

Sam Cooke said a change would come
But it’s been a long time coming
If the head won’t move
The train won’t come
Listen to the diesels humming
So open up your ears and dry your tears
Because a change will come

Zimmerman said when the ship comes in
That we will all be sailing
You may get on board
You may thank the Lord
The only failure’s failing
But Zimmerman said from his big brass bed
That a change would come

So all on board the glory train
To take you there and back again
All on board – we’re heaven bound
Can’t you hear that trumpet sound
Can’t you see? ‘cos Sam Cooke said

Mr Morrison said Jackie Wilson said
Straight to your heart just like a cannonball
You may sing the blues
You have the right to choose
When it comes to the blues we’ve had ‘em all
Mr Morrison said with his various heads

That a change would come
A change would come
A change would come
A change would come

So people get ready there’s a train a-coming
People get ready there’s a train a-coming
People get ready there’s a train a-coming round the bend
People get ready there’s a train a-coming
People get ready there’s a train a-coming
People get ready there’s a train a-coming in the end

WINDS OF CHANGE (REPRISE)

And if your world is spinning
And everything feels strange
You know you’ve been blown about by the winds
And if your head is spinning – so much to rearrange
You know you’ve been blown about by the winds

Some days it’s out of range
But you know you’ve been blown about
